Last night was the first game of the 2011 season for Drew’s “Dodgers” team in the MYBA (Morton Youth Baseball Association). This year is coach pitch which is exciting for both myself and Drew. Yes, I’m coaching the Dodgers as well. I have some awesome coaches working along with me as well. So last night we played the Yankees. I was definitely nervous myself, as I had never been involved in a coach pitch game at the “Maverick” level. The other team’s coaches were very helpful and made the game a breeze. I was also nervous because I had to pitch to these kids. Most of our Dodger team have never played coach pitch before. They are a great group of kids but I didn’t know how they would respond.

Let me say – they did GREAT. These kids seemed like they have been playing coach pitch for years. They knew when and where to run, they knew where to throw the ball, they were respectful and listened to our coaches. All in all and great first game. The games last 1:30 or 6 innings. We played from 7:00 to 8:30 which is a long time for these kids. We have 14 games throughout the summer. This week we play M-W-F and next week we play Tu-Th-Sat… So you get the idea – it’s going to be a LONG SUMMER!

Drew did great. I was proud of him. He hit the ball well and played the field well. I give him a hard time because he didn’t catch the liner back up the middle. But I guess I really didn’t expect him to catch it (just hoped he did). Most of all, Drew and all of the kids seemed to have a great time. They enjoyed it and were smiles the whole night. I truly can’t wait for our game on Wednesday.

If you are in Morton and want to watch some kids playing a game they love. 5:30 on field 3 on Wednesday!!! Dodgers vs. Reds :)

p.s. – We aren’t supposed to keep “score” but you know me. What’s a game without a score, right? Haha. So don’t tell the kids but we lost to the Yankees 29-21 in our opener.

I promised a little family update so here it is. Our family is doing well – we are super busy – but I know everyone is so that’s no surprise.

Bryce – This little guy is about 15 months now. He has thinned down a little since he was born mostly because he’s so active. Bryce is still a big boy for his age and seems strong as an ox. Wrestling with Drew, running from mom, jumping on the trampoline and throwing food seem to be some of his favorite activities.

Alyssa - She started pre-school at Bethel Lutheran just last week. She goes 2 days a week, Tuesday and Thursday, and really loves it. Alyssa started dance class here in Morton as well and seems pretty pumped about that. She is getting tall and skinny and really getting a nice little attitude (kinda like mommy). She loves to ride her scooter, play with her friends in the neighborhood, play with her makeup, and watch movies.

Drew – I did a school update last week so take a look at that if you like. But other than school, Drew is doing well. He seems to be a tall kid and is starting to take a liking to some sports. For some reason, right now he states that he doesn’t want to play basketball or football because the coaches yell too much. He prefers soccer and baseball. So we’ll see where that all goes. Actually he asked if he could take golf lessons the other day – haha. I’m sure he’ll get into something as he’s a competitive little dude. He loves to ride his scooter and bike, play with the neighborhood kids, chill in his room with his cars and stuffed animals, and watch Disney Channel shows.

Sarah – She is turning into super woman. Sarah decided to watch kids from her home this fall/winter so she could make a little income yet still stay home with Bryce. So she has her hands full with that. Lots of families took her up on this and she has a nice schedule of before school, all day and after school kids. Let me just say, I COULDN’T DO IT! I was home one day while all these kids were around and almost lost my mind But she loves it and takes great care of these kids. She has also been doing a lot of stuff with her girl friends as of late. Pedicures, working out at Golds, etc…

Ryan - Same old for me. Working hard and coming home to hang out with the kids. Football started up so I love this time of year. Doing a little recreational sports betting here or there just to make things interesting. I have been going to Gold’s Gym as well trying to workout both my upper and lower body and include some cardio. It’s been awhile since I’ve touched a weight.

So that’s that. As for pictures, I try to keep Facebook updated with some pictures so check that out if you want to see the family photos. A Knuppel family update in about 4 paragraphs. How is everyone else?

Slacker! Anyways, this week/weekend is the Morton Pumpkin Festival. We always go to this but this is the first year we are actually “Potters” while this is going on. We plan on taking part in most of the festivities like locals should

Last night we brought the kids out to the Big Wheel races. Drew loved it. He drove around on the big wheels all night and did his practice warmups. It was basically a billion kids driving around and ramming into each other. Chaos. Once the races started they each got one shot to fly down the long race track. Drew came in 3rd I believe and was very proud of himself. He got a nice looking ribbon. Alyssa on the other hand wouldn’t have anything to do with it. I think she was tired.

So tonight we are probably going out there to enjoy the Pumkin Festival food. Then Thursday night is the “Kiddie Parade” that we will visit. Followed on Saturday morning by a run and the parade. Fun weekend ahead!

Anyone else heading out to the Pumpkin Festival?
