Florida Vacation!

In early April my family and I went to Florida for a week vacation! We spent nearly a full week in Orlando with my parents and then Sarah/Drew spent another week in Tampa with her parents.

We flew out of Bloomington on Saturday, March 26. We were on an evening flight that had a connection in Atlanta, short layover, then onto Orlando. This was Drew’s first flight ever. He was still under 2 years old so we made him a lap child instead of buying him a seat. Needless to say, it was very stressfull. Drew is not the kind of baby to just sit there and be quiet. He wanted up, he wanted to run, he wanted food, he was cramped, I was cramped, mommy was cramped! Making things even worse was the fact that we were flying through storms. It was one of the bumpiest rides I’d ever been on. We got out at Atlanta and had about 10 minutes to get across the entire airport to catch our connecting flight. We made it thankfully. We arrived in at Orlando close to 1:00 AM and my parents were there to pick us up.

We spent the week at Westgate Vacation Villas, a condo facility that my parents own a week timeshare at. It is like 5 miles from all Disney attractions and in a very nice area. We had a great time all week relaxing around the pool, playing tennis, playing shuffleboard, and pigging out. Drew absolutely loved the pool and the warm weather. We also spent a day and drove to Jupiter, Florida to watch the Cardinals play the Orioles in a spring training matchup. That was a long drive but a lot of fun. It was about 100 degrees out there so Sarah and Drew weren’t in the best of moods :)

My dad and I also spent a day and went to the Wide World Of Sports complex right in Orlando and watched the Braves/Astros spring training game. That was a great time as well. We all did our fair share of eating as well. Restaurants included: ESPN Zone (on the boardwalk), Pacman Cafe, Denny’s, Taco Bell, frozen pizza’s, McDonalds, Damons, Lonestar Steakhouse, etc.

On that Friday, we ate at Lonestar in Lakeland, Florida and then dropped Drew and Sarah off with her family. I flew back with my family on Saturday and they went on to Tampa for another week. They had a blast in Tampa, except Drew spent the first day or so sick. He had a double ear infection and swimmers ear from all the water in his ears. He was exhausted as well. They stayed on the Army base in Tampa and slept in the Peterson’s trailer. They spent many days on the beach and spent a day at Busch Gardens! They finally made their flight home on Thursday, April 7th and I was very glad to see them. Everyone was exhausted but had the most wonderful vacation. Can’t wait to go again!
