Labor Day Weekend Festivities

This weekend was the Labor Day Weekend, Manito Popcorn Festival in Manito. We went early in the morning to watch the parade. Drew loved it this year after being scared to death of it last year. He sat in front of the adults chanting, “Candy, candy, candy…” How embarrassing! He just loved the fact that if he waved, people whipped candy at him. Drew even got hit in the head by a piece and thought that was hilarious. Alyssa didn’t care for it much, but she wasn’t scared like Drew was.

After that, the hectic part of the weekend began. I played in the 3 on 3 basketball tourney and Sarah and I both were playing in the sand volleyball tourney. I had many games that overlapped so wasn’t able to play volleyball until the 2nd round of games. There were just 3 teams in sand volleyball so they played a double round-robin tourney, if there was a tie – the team who gave up the least amount of points won. Well, we finished at 3-1 and the Woiwode team finished at 3-1 as well. But they gave up fewer points so were rewarded the championship. In basketball, it was an emarrassing performance. I played with Jason Conklin, Scott Winders and Scott’s roommate from college. We one our first, but then lost our next two to Proehls team and to Hilst/Gresham team. Not a good showing at all.

We were so stressed at the end of Saturday due to our kids being fussy and us not having time to deal with them. We didn’t even really get to enjoy the “festival” with them. It’s going to be tough – but we discussed NOT playing in either event next year and enjoying the festival with our kids. Because really it should be about them – shouldn’t it? We’ll see how we feel when September rolls around next year though :)
