Those little lights DO mean something

prestoneanticool3So I drive a 2001 Saturn SL1.  Has over 100,000 miles on it but has always ran pretty well.  As of 5-6 months ago, a little light popped up on the dashboard.  Being very NON-CAR savy myself, I did what the average stupid person would do – IGNORED IT.  I’m like, car is still running so it must not mean anything.

So I continue driving the beast and all of a sudden, my heat seems to be broke.  Crap!  Time for a new car?  Nah, I can handle no heat.  Well, go on a few more weeks and now after I turn the car off – it seems to “run” for a good 5-10 minutes after the fact.  Almost like it’s trying to cool down.  Hmmm.  This car sucks!

Well, my lazy butt finally decided to look into that light.  What do you know!?!?!  My car was completely out of engine coolant.  Could this really help?  I filled the little compartment with the proper coolant – and WALA.  Heat works… Car shuts off properly… Good as new  :)   If it would have only fixed the oil leak.

So moral of the story.  If the car is complaining with a little light on the dashboard – it most likely means something.
