Playing basketball now makes me hurt

As most of you know I used to play basketball for 2-3 hours a day, every day of my life, for like 10+ years straight.  It was my life.  I could run up and down the court til my legs fall off.  Well, these days it’s the exact opposite.  Sure, I can play in the friendly pickup games with no problem.  The old mans leagues I can handle.

But last night I was asked by Monmouth College head coach Mark Vershaw (former East Peoria and Wisconsin standout) to play in a scrimmage against their college team.  I agreed and made the drive to Monmouth. Yikes!  It hurt.  I could tell after like 3 times up and down that I was winded and it was going to be a long night.  The shot still feels decent.  But I can’t run, I’m 3 steps slow on everything, and my feet, legs, muscles, shoulders HURT today!  Officially, I’m old!

Luckily our team was mostly older guys so we were all a bit out of shape.  But we still gave those college guys a run for their money.  Monmouth hit a lot of big shots and overall played really well.  Will be interesting to see how the  do this year.
